What is Twitter Advertising

Twitter advertising is paying Twitter to promote your content on their platform and push out your tweets to new people who may be interested in your content. Ads on twitter come in many forms, such as Sponsored Tweets, Sponsored Accounts, and Sponsored Trends. For the uninitiated Twitter can seem like a strange place. Why would you want to write posts with such a small character limit? The answer is that the design of the platform is built in such a way that content can be consumed incredibly quickly. You can read someones condensed thoughts and engage in conversation with them faster than it takes to read a more traditional blog post.

Did You Know There Are Over 500m Tweets Each Day?

Breaking Down the Lingo

Tweet – A Tweet is a post made on the microblogging social media application Twitter. Twitter is known as a microblogging platform as you can only write 280 characters in a tweet. It used to be 140 but people complained. Twitter users tweet personal messages, random thoughts, links, or anything that fits in the character requirements

Twitter Handle – @ A Twitter handle is the username that appears at the end of your unique Twitter URL. Twitter handles must contain fewer than 15 characters

Hashtags – A Hashtag, more commonly seen online as this symbol “#” is a label for finding relevant content for a topic. It helps others who are interested in a certain area of interest quickly find content on that same subject.

Trending – Trending topics on twitter are topics that are being discussed more than other topics. Twitter explains trending topics by saying, “Twitter Trends are automatically generated by an algorithm that attempts to identify topics that are being talked about more right now than they were previously.”

Retweet – A retweet is simply seeing another profile’s tweet and you pushing a button to broadcast that tweet on your own profile to show to your own followers. This could be for infinite reasons, maybe you really agree with the message, maybe it’s shocking.
Just like Twitter Hashtags, retweets are community-driven and allow people to spread messages and discussions easier.

DM – This stands for “Direct Message” and is a private message sent between two accounts on Twitter. Direct messages are not restricted to the same character limits as tweets.

How Our Twitter Advertising Services Can Help Grow Your Business

There are several different types of ads on the Twitter platform, such as promoted tweets, promoted accounts and promoted trends. They each have a different purpose on the platform.

Promoted Tweets – Promoted tweets are ordinary tweets purchased by advertisers who want to reach a wider group of users or to spark engagement from existing followers. Promoted tweets are clearly labeled as ‘Promoted’ when an advertiser is paying for the placement on Twitter.

Promoted Accounts – Promoted Accounts on Twitter are sponsored suggestions by Twitter to its users for accounts that their users are not following currently. Promoted Accounts usually have some relevance to the user, such as the user following a similar account.

Promoted Trends – A Promoted Trend is a 24-hour high-impact takeover of the Trends list on Twitter — where people go to see what’s happening in real-time. Remember that taking advantage of Twitter Promoted Trends isn’t going to result in direct responses. Don’t think of them as bottom-of-funnel sales tools because that won’t work; they are top-of-funnel vehicles that simply drive awareness to your website.

Twitter has an average monthly user base of 330,000,000 people. Those people are constantly looking for new content to consume. If this sounds like what your business is in need of then get in contact and one of our social media specialists will be in touch.
